What about the Future?
When ChatGPT was released (November 2022), the leap forward compared to previous models (such as GPT-3) which had not made their way to the general public but were used by the research community, was a bit of a surprise even for expert practitioners. The speed of progress in this field at the moment is astonishing, though often not very well accompanied by ethical considerations and appropriate efforts to increase literacy and responsible use in the general public. We can expect continuous progress, but the exact details of it are not entirely predictable. AI will be more and more integrated in our lives, whether we like it or not, and whether we choose it or not, and the best we can do is to keep abreast of developments, learn as much as possible about AI’s workings, and maintain a critical and responsible approach to its use.
